LinkedIn Q&A: How to Enforce Your Employment Rights & What Happens if There is Reprisal

Challenging illegal practices in a workplace is a difficult task. Employees often feel vulnerable, or may not even understand the full extent of the rights available to them.

Employment in Canada is governed by a number of pieces of legislation, including the Employment Standards Act, the Ontario Human Rights Code, and the Occupational Health and Safety Act. Employees should not face any retaliation for enforcing their rights under these statutes. Join this LinkedIn Q&A to learn how to enforce your rights and what to do if you are threatened or penalized for protecting your legal rights.

Natalie and Stuart will host this LinkedIn Q&A on Thursday, April 6th. This is a free session available to anyone with a LinkedIn account. The session will run for approximately 30 minutes on the Rudner MacDonald LinkedIn page.

Google Hangout: Weed in the Workplace – Helping You Avoid “Pot” Holes

After months of speculation and consultations, the Federal government announced last week their firm intention and legislation plan to legalize recreational marijuana use by July 1, 2018. While medical use of marijuana has been legal for a few years now, this additional category of marijuana users means that employers will likely have to learn more about the drug, the different types of users, and whether each type of user needs to be accommodated under human rights legislation.

Join Rudner MacDonald on Thursday, May 4th for a Google Hangout session to have your questions answered regarding medical marijuana and the legalization of it, and how it will impact your workplace. Learn what employers are entitled to ask from an employee in the event of accommodation requests, how medical marijuana and addictions may need to be accommodated, whether self-prescribed and recreational users should be accommodated, and how to adapt your workplace to these fast-changing times.
